Art displays a unique face in every era, while injecting infinite energy of perpetual change into the world throughout history. European art from 19th to 20th century featured plenty of changes and breakthroughs, each great artist reborn out of disturbance having found themselves in a fierce debate. No art schools or movements could be seen as independent monuments. Myriads of artistic phenomena crossed paths, went through inversion, and even overlapped. Artists incessantly self-reflected, probed and experimented, creating a kaleidoscopic art world in a time of transformation.
This exhibition, a retrospect of art history, will display authentic works of 46 outstanding artists from 19th to 20th century, covering romanticism, realism, impressionism, modernism and postmodernism, all significant artistic styles and movements of modern and contemporary art in Europe. Through those masterpieces of the giants, a centennial memoir of the western art will be presented to the eastern public.
The China-Italy Year of Culture and Tourism 2022 entails a great many of remarkable exchange programs between the two nations, both having a rich cultural legacy. In light of that, the Chengdu Museum and the Galleria Nazionale d’Arte Moderna, in their first-ever cooperation, will provide the Chinese public with a feast of art and thoughts.
