The exhibition takes a new look at the statues of the Southern Dynasties unearthed in Chengdu to interpret the statues’ important position in the history of Buddhism in China. Moreover, it also elucidates the exchange and integration of the statue arts between North and South China by comparing them with the Buddha statues unearthed in Shaanxi, Qingzhou, Yecheng and other places. In the meantime, by displaying the Buddha statues from the Southern and Northern Dynasties, the exhibition reveals the religious, cultural and artistic exchanges between the two civilizations of China and India, the cultural diversity between North and South China in the Southern and Northern Dynasties, the great integration of ethnic cultures, and Chengdu's strategic historical position as an important town along the Silk Road and a cultural hub.
